But did you know that in poetry, fireflies are associated with passionate love, and that in folklore, their light symbolizes the souls of soldiers fallen in battle? They also appear in Japanese idioms, such as the comical 蛍族 (ほたるぞく, hotaruzoku, or firefly clan), which refers to people who are forced to smoke outdoors; in the distance, only the glow of their cigarette is visible, resembling a firefly. And let's not forget the song "Hotaru no Hikari" by the group Ikimono Gakari, very popular in Japan and used in the anime series "Naruto: Shippūden.".
