Spring is approaching, and with it, the hanami season!
[Updated February 12] In Tokyo, the first flowers (開花, kaika) are expected to appear on March 20 and the peak of flowering (満開, mankai) is announced for the 29th!

The Japan Meteorological Corporation (JMC) announced on January 14th its first national forecast for cherry blossom season. According to this forecast, milder-than-usual autumn and winter temperatures could accelerate the blossom season by several days in some regions.
So, In Tokyo and Fukuoka, the flowering is expected on March 23rd. while the residents of Sendai will have to wait until April to admire the famous flowers.
The Japan Meteorological Corporation makes its forecasts based on cherry blossoms. Somei Yoshino, the most common variety of flowering cherry tree in Japan. It takes into account many factors such as temperatures during periods of dormancy and growth.
These forecasts are of course subject to changes in weather conditions and the Japan Meteorological Corporation has stated that it will regularly update its forecasts.
